Saturday morning we finally get going.. 7.30am kick off..the bike packed and repacked.. stickers applied to the bikes San Francisco to Alaska 2012..
Moments before the off I thought I'd take a picture for the record!!!
We follow the Interstate 101 North and take the turning to Russian river on the 116 following on to the Pacific Highway.
Spoilt by the sunshine we head on to the first leg of the ride following the coast line were we enjoy the best twisting roads I have ever ridden..
Subsequently I found out the the pacific coast has a climate all of its own! although bright sunshine is common place the inland land mass and the heat of California sun produces massive cloud or fog conditions which roll in onto the coast and the temperature is chilly to say the least! later on when we get to the Redwood forest the temperatures where 16 degrees higher!!! than the pacific highway hitting 30 degrees!!.
Although this was the first day we couldn't stop ourselves from taking every opportunity to take a picture! at this rate there'd be literally thousands of them!
With these impromptu stops the one nice surprise is the interest we are creating with the Americans.. I think they are intrigued by our number plates!!
They are extremely friendly very interested in what we are doing and quite proud with the fact that we are here..they seem almost as if they have a duty or a responsibility to personally congratulate us in visiting and invite us to enjoy their humble America!

A simple question results with simple answers...usually..!! only in America!
Whilst taking theses few pictures we suffer the funny dilemma that we are now encountering many times a day it goes a little like this..
Question "Well hi there how'ya doin?... So... where yaw'all folks from then?"
Answer "Hi There! we're from the UK"
Reaction "Al'..rright!!"
Question "so where a bouts in the UK?"
Answer "Coventry"
Reaction "Al'..rright!!"
Question "Is that near Oxford?"
Answer "yeah close!!"
Reaction "Al'..rright!!"
Another picture postcard view but it was frekkin cold at times!
So to follow on we go up through Fort Bragg on highway 1 pushing on to "Legget" and back to Interstate 101 to our evening stopover in a Town called......Eureka!
But not before riding through the majestic roads that cut throughout the Redwood Forest!
I've alway wanted to see these trees and all I can say is they are unbelievable as someone once said to us they are "staggering" just "staggering"
The Giant Redwoods are massive...but maybe theres no point in explaining how big these things really are! I suppose it wouldn't matter how you try and describe them to people.. I guess until you visit them yourself they would only be.. big trees!! wonderful they are too..
Hey I reckon... I've found that bloody cat!!
You sure your a good shot!!
So after a great start to the trip we finally make our way to Eureka California for the night before we push Via Interstate 5 Heading North to Portland Oregon 470 miles of Arse numbing Highways!!
The view from our private Balcony!
"A town called Eureka"..But as as one might say
"What a Shit Hole!"
Night..
