Since Dawson City the
travelling south hasn’t really been anything other than riding towards the next
horizon..
For the last 3 days since
Dawson City our mileage per day is the equivalent of travelling from London to
Scotland.
From Dawson to Teslin
our over night stop totalled 440 miles.
Telsin was basic
to say the least! A truck stop motel where we had our evening meal in the most
Mosquito infested dining room I have ever experienced…I reckon they had a
better feast than we did.. serious bites…
Teslin has been awarded the level 5 Deet award…
Not really a lot to say about
this leg of the journey just straight roads but we must press on…
Oh there is one thing the
river bridges…Steel grated decked river bridges..your worst nightmare! There is no
way I can describe the terror these things bring to you! Just before the start
of the bridge section there are the disclaimers advising users of the bridge
that the grating may effect steering…..no shit Sherlock!!
As you concentrate keeping
the bike the right way up ..the grate ridges pull and push the bike all over the
place.. remembering not to use throttle too much or hit the brakes...really really scary!
So the next day consisted of riding to a stop over called Toad River some 385miles away on the boarder of British Columbia midway down the Alcan highway.
We pass through Watson Lake again..if you remember where the German Lieutenant wanted us to share beds at his motel..anyway I digress..
We head south on the Alcan Highway and start to get lots of wildlife along the way, apart from this pleasant distraction, the travelling was again.. getting to next Horizon and then again.. So the hope of seeing the odd black bear or Bison or wolf or mountain goat kept the mind active..
Whooa Big lad!!
I stopped at the Laird Hot springs about 120 miles before Toad River paid $3.00 and had a dip with a few of the lads which was really good..
Laird Springs The very Hot Part
The nearly very Hot other Part..

It amazed me how mainly all the occupants were elderly! It was like something from the film cocoon!
They shuffled to the steps waddled into the water..and then it was like they were at a kids birthday party.. Mind you It was bloody lovely..But it stank of sulphur and rotten eggs...
To top it all the weather up to now had been very hot and it did cross my mind that going into the hot springs was maybe the last thing I should be doing!! but it was worth it!.
We set off for the final leg of the day to Toad river
Lovely weather here at Laird lake.. but just around the corner I went through possibly the worst thunder storm Ive ever experienced on a bike! Really unnerving..
Winds so strong they were pushing me sideways while riding along..
Eventually arrived at Toad River! another gas station motel setup!!!
But it was home to the worlds greatest collection of Base ball caps!!
We settled in for the night trying to catch up with my blog..but internet connection was on Horlicks
Then the shout came up "Beavers"...
As someone in the group said it was like World war 2 fighter scramble...
This one is a touch blurred but they work stripping branches with no fear of the
on lookers
Five in total quite a few people came down to see them
Mister Beaver building his Dam..
The Dam
That really made the night and so it was off to bed early again as the motel was a dry one again!!
Tomorrow
Dawson Creek the start and end point of the Alcan Highway..
Ta ta...
